Microsoft announced plans to push Windows 10 feature updates every year, which will match the update speed of Windows 11. This year’s Windows 10 update was released today, and the next update will be released in the second half of 2022. John Cable, head of Microsoft Windows Services and Delivery, said: “We will transition to the new Windows 10 release cadence to keep pace with the Windows 11 cadence, and the goal is to release feature updates every year.”
Despite the hype around this release schedule, this year’s update is quite small, and the only major feature worth noting is GPU computing support in the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). The content of the 2022 update has not yet been revealed, but Microsoft has made it clear that it will support at least one version of the operating system before October 14, 2025.
